Lewis Fredrick Long, 92, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025. He was born May 10, 1933, in Indianapolis, son of Lucian Long and Dora (Fleenor) Long. Following high school graduation, he went on to build a life defined by dedication, quiet strength, and deep love for family. Lewis retired from Central Supply Company, where he worked faithfully for many years and was known for his strong work ethic.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was stationed in Japan—an experience he carried with honor throughout his life.
Lewis found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures: hunting and fishing, searching for morel mushrooms alongside his beloved wife, Hilda, and spending time camping together in their trailer in Cloverdale. Those moments outdoors, surrounded by nature and loved ones, brought him true contentment.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hilda Mae (Darnell) Long; his son, Steven Fredrick Long; and his brother, Tony Long.
Survivors include his children, Curt (Marcia) Rogers, Carolyn (Bill) Boxell, and Amanda Braun; brother, Lucian (Tink) Sylvia Long; daughter-in-law, Karen Long Acton; sister-in-law, Shelia Tarr; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love, loyalty, and resilience.
To honor Lewis’s wishes, there will be no service. His life will be remembered quietly, just as he lived—steadfast, humble, and devoted to those he loved.
Arrangements entrusted to Distinctive Cremation.
